Explosion Money Box Card

Hi Stampers

One of my BFF’s needed a card for a 17 year old.   It is her “champagne” birthday.   Now to be honest, I had no clue what a Champagne Birthday was.   Do you?    I had to be educated…. if your birth date and age happen at the same time… it is called a Champagne Birthday.   In this case, 17 years old on the 17th of June.    Go figure… 57 and I learned something new 🙂

I knew the card wasn’t being mailed and that cash was going to be given, so I made an Explosion Box with a smaller box inside to hold the cash.      I wanted some bling on the card and kept the outside fairly simple.     The numbers and balloons were put on thin strips of window sheets.    I put a slit in the top of the box to insert the strips then bent them under the bottom side of the lid and taped them down.   To conceal the strips and tape, I cut a piece of  DSP and covered the inside of the lid.

Originally I was going to add flowers to the outside box, but decided the inside was decorated enough and any more would get a bit gaudy.

This is the box with both lids off.    I left the bottom panel blank for the person to write on.

This is the side view.   Word of caution, I wanted to use one of the larger balloons on the lid, but it was too heavy for the window sheets and was flopping over.    I had cut out a second set of the numbers and balloons to sandwich the window sheets between them (so the back sides would be finished).

What do you think?    I love how this turned out.
