France 2014

Hi Stampers

In the past I blogged as I travelled.   I found it very helpful when I pulled together my scrapbooks.     I am now playing catch-up (before I forget the details).

I found a great group to travel with, The Women’s Travel Network.    This is my third trip with them.    When Debbie posted a trip to the South of France with author of The Promise of Provence, Patricia Sands, I knew this was a trip to sign up for.

At the last minute we had to change our plans because of an Air Traffic Controller strike in France.   Anyone that has travelled to France knows it is the land of protests and strikes.      Instead of flying Toronto/Paris/Nice, we ended up changing the arrangements and flew from Toronto to Paris then transferred to the train station to take the train into Nice.    It added on about 5 hours to a very long travel day.

When we arrived at the station in Paris and our train arrived, we had to look for our Coach number.   We were told it was at the end of the platform….. unfortunately when we got to the end of the train (from one end of the platform to the other – maybe 15 coaches) we were told they forgot to change the coach numbers and we had to go back to the front of the train.    With luggage in tow… we get to the other end of the platform and notice they “just” changed the numbers.    Backtracking about half way down we finally made it to our coach.    Needless to say we were all happy to store our luggage and find out seats for the 5+ hour train ride.

We were picked up at the station in Nice and made our way to the Holiday Inn.

All checked in a few of us headed to a restaurant for a late dinner at Chez Davia before heading back to the hotel and bed.    It is an early morning the next day to start exploring the Cote d’Azur.

After leaving Toronto on Wednesday June 25th at 6:00 pm, we arrived in Nice around 6:00 pm (local time) on June 26th.. a very long travel day.
