Hi Stampers
This was the only day I blogged about during the trip but am adding a bit more. We started at 9:30 in the morning and met our guide Christine.
First stop was Eze where we climbed to the top of the hill to see the cactus gardens and an amazing view of the Riviera. All through the climb to the top you are treated to a variety of shops and winding cobblestone streets. I think we lost a few people on the way up who wanted to shop 🙂
We then headed over to Monaco. What a contrast. Eze is quaint and “old world” while Monaco is like Manhattan on the Riviera. We visited Saint Nicholas Cathedral where the Grimaldi family are buried and then took a tour of the palace at Monaco – it was much smaller than I expected – well… at least the rooms we saw.
To the left and right of the Palace entrance you have the most amazing views of the harbours and yachts.
We stopped for a quick bite at a stand-up cafe on one of the side streets near the palace then headed back to the bus to go over to Monte Carlo.
I think we all went in to “look” at the casino but only a few went in to gamble. The rest of us went to the Cafe de Paris outside the Casino and “pretended” to live the life.
Dinner this evening was at the Campo di Fiori in the old part of Nice. We sat out outside. The whole area is alive, full of cafes, restaurants and market stalls. The whole area was buzzing. The pictures don’t do it justice.
While at dinner, some street performers came over to sing with us. Too much fun…. and you know I love to sing. If a picture pops up, I will be sure to share it.
A late night walk along the Promenade and we headed back to the hotel for another full day tomorrow.
Thanks for stopping by,
