Hi Stampers
Today was a free day – kind of. We started the morning off meeting Ted Jones, author of “The French Riviera, A Literary Guide for Travellers”.
We gathered at 9:00 am in the bar of the Hotel and listened while he told tales of the many writers that have lived and been inspired by the Cote d’Azur. Ted and his wife were on their way back to England in the afternoon and we were honoured that they took the time out to come and meet with us. A few of us were able to purchase his book(s) and have them signed by him.
We then headed to the market in Nice. It was amazing to see the area we had dinner in the previous night – transformed into a market. By 2:00 pm, the market stalls are removed, the city comes in and cleans the streets and the restaurants start bringing the tables / chairs back out and dress the tables. You would never know the market existed. This process happens every day (except Mondays). What a fine-tuned process. It was a warm day and I think we all purchased fresh cherries to eat. I went through a bag of cherries and then purchased a cut watermelon for us all to try. It was a perfect market morning.
We then toured the city on the Hop On / Hop off bus. It took us through the various areas of the city – some got off to visit museums while the rest of us continued on to see all the city had to offer. The city was hosting the Ironman Competition the next day. Part of the Promenade des Anglais had been closed to accommodate this competition. It didn’t stop people from enjoying the beach beyond the Promenade. The city was bustling.
Dinner this evening was at the Le Romarin . Again we dined outside and enjoyed the ambiance. I will admit though that I think we were all pretty tired. Once dinner was over, we walked leisurely back to the hotel. All ready to set out the next morning.
