Resizing your envelopes

By | April 8, 2009

I had a few people ask about resizing envelopes to fit smaller cards – this one is for you Holly.

Take a regular medium envelope and lick the back closed.
Put your envelope in your paper trimmer with the top of the envelope at the top of the trimmer (you will be trimming the side).
Trim the side of the envelope to whatever size you want (the seam at the back of the envelope will now go vertically instead of horizontally).
Take some DSP (I usually use the same or co-ordinating paper that I used on the card) and cut it 2″ x however long the envelope opening is.
Score it in half and use your corner rounder punch to trim the front (and back if you want).
Glue the front of the DSP to the front of the envelope.
Use the two way glue pen and add glue to the back of the flap but don’t adhere it down – let it fully dry. This will now be repositional and you can seal the envelope.

Here are a couple of pictures (front/back) from one of the envelopes I did for a Valentine’s card.

It really comes in handy for those smaller cards. If you have an odd-sized larger card you can also do the same thing but with larger envelopes.

Hopefully this will answer any questions and you find this useful. This is my tip du jour. Wait… I should be practicing my Italian not French – my tip “del giorno” (love Babel Fish!)

Have a good one.
