Hi Stampers
We are Touring Around Rome today.
Thanks for stopping by today. It is July 5th and we are spending time Touring Around Rome. Originally we were to tour the Colosseum at 9:00 am, but shortly before leaving home, the tour operator contacted us and said the time is being changed to noon. While it was nice to sleep in a bit, being at the Colosseum at high noon was not ideal… it was HOT!
We walked from the Hotel over to the Colosseum, taking our time as we walked over. It is about a 20 minute walk, but there are some stores along the way, so we did some retail therapy as we walked along.
I loved the look of this cafe… is screams Italy. This was on our walk to the Colosseum.
We arrived a bit early, found our meeting place and sat in a cafe opposite the Colosseum. We enjoyed the cooling mist coming from the awning…. and a beverage.
The Colosseum… our view from the cafe patio
I had been to the Colosseum a few times before, but never did it through the Gladiator Gate Entrance. It was a treat being on the lower level of the Colosseum, but ohhh soooo HOT!
We also did the tour of the Roman Forum and saw the ruins of the Temple of Caesar.
Needless to say, by this time we were both hot, tired and hungry. We started to walk back towards the Hotel and found the first cafe. What originally started out as a drink ended up as a very late lunch.
On our way back, I also found a street artist. I always buy something when I travel and fell in love with this picture. It is called Shooting Star and it is a redheaded girl. I thought this summed up my journey on earning the Stampin’ Up! Incentive Trip. Now to get it framed.
We walked back to the Hotel and the Marine Band was practicing in the Piazza close by. We had a few hours til the actual concert, so walked up to the Piazza Navona. On our way back, we stopped at a cafe and had a cold drink. It has been extremely hot (that is our excuse). We made it back to the Piazza near the hotel and sat at a cafe. It was late afternoon and the Marine Band concert was about to start. We ordered a drink and FaceTimed a friend from home. I wish we had a video of that conversation.
Colleen enjoying life at the cafe.
It was so nice sitting there watching / listening to the world go by that we ended up ordering something to eat and a few Aperol Spritz’ later, the band had played, the sun had set and we watched the laser light show against the Temple of Hardrian.
This is the Marine Band… it was an awesome concert.
And after the sun set, the Temple of Hadrian light show. We were at the cafe for a while.
After the show, we made one last visit to the Rooftop Bar at the hotel. It really was that nice.
Tomorrow is another early morning… it is time to visit the Vatican before we head to the Sheraton for our last night in Rome.
